1923
Born in Baltimore, MD
Son of Anna Shapiro and Albert Hecht

Anna - antiques dealer
Albert – fine arts/painter, during the depression, out of necessity, took jobs as an illustrator, sign painter, printer, and window-dresser.

1927
Age 4, Jack showed an interest in drawing. During his childhood years he spent time much time in his father’s art studio. This had a huge effect on his future art making.

1929
Jack’s first grade teacher reported to his parents that he had an innate drawing ability.

1938                             
Age 15 The family moved to Harrisburg, PA. Jack started to compose mixed media drawings and paintings inspired by images in magazines and newspapers.

1943
Inducted into US Army/Airforce

1946
Discharged from US Army

1946
Married/ Two Children

1946 – 1984
Worked in family retail business

1949
Jack’s father Albert passed away. During this year Jack created approximately forty paintings.
This year jump-started a life-time of making art.

1975
Wife Hannagene passed away.
 
1984
Moved to Bethesda, MD

1989 – 1991
Attended art classes, Corcoran College of Art and Design, Washington, DC.

1990
Attended art classes, Metropolitan Center for Visual Arts, Rockville, MD

2002
Moved to Newtown, PA
